PRINCEVILLE — The shock of the flood has slowly faded in Princeville, but reality has set in, and the government has set a deadline for the difficult decision residents must make, to rebuild or relocate.
A mid-December decision deadline has been set. The government will give the people of Princeville money to sell their homes and move, but there is not money available for preserving the historic town.
Because the Tar River could rise up again, the government will buy homes, but not help residents rebuild in the flood plain.
Nevertheless, Princeville pastor James Brown is encouraging his congregation to stay and rebuild, without government funds. Richard Allen is also on a campaign to convince his friends and neighbors to stay.
Next week, the town's residents will gather to decide what's next.
