ZEBULON, N.C. — One person died and two others were injured in an early Sunday morning accident near the Wake-Johnston county line, the North Carolina Highway Patrol said.

At about 4 a.m. Sunday, a Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Hilary Pearce, 58, was traveling southbound on Highway 39 when a Saturn pulled out in front of him at the intersection of

Highway 39 and Earpsboro Road

, according to investigators.

Authorities said Pearce swerved to avoid the car, but was hit on the Tahoe's left side, causing it to roll over about halfway. One of the two passengers, Mari-Leigh Englis, 49, was thrown from the vehicle and died upon impact when the Tahoe rolled on top of her. She was not wearing a seatbelt, the Highway Patrol said.

Pearce and the other passenger in the Tahoe, were treated for injuries at WakeMed in Raleigh and later released.

The driver of the Saturn, Ashley Williams, 20, of Wendell, was charged with a DWI and a stop sign violation. More charges are pending, according to authorities.
