DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham police officer was killed in a car crash early Saturday morning.

According to Durham police spokeswoman Kammie Michael, Officer C.J. Callemyn was traveling west on Holloway Street about 3 a.m. when he lost control of his police cruiser and struck the underpass of N.C. Highway 70. (Map of Location)

Callemyn was enroute to check with another officer before the crash, Michael said. He served with the department since April of 2005.

Callemyn was involved in an incident earlier this month where a driver dragged him for nearly two blocks during a traffic stop. He was not seriously hurt.

The accident is under investigation. Callemyn is survived by two children.
