Church Families Reunite For Historic Anniversary

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — It was an historic reunion Sunday for two sister churches -- one black and one white.

Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Morrisville was formed by freed slaves who broke away from Cedar Fork Baptist Church. On its 138th anniversary, Shiloh invited members of Cedar Fork to worship with them.

It was a morning of song, prayer and reflection on the connection and history of both churches.

"It's just a great blessing. It's something that should have been years ago, but we're just glad we can come together now and to worship with one another," said the Rev. Travis Biller, of Cedar Fork Baptist Church.

"It was just a thrill and my heart is just still rejoicing because God is moving through the church," said the Reve. McArthur Pettiford, of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.

The service was followed by a celebration lunch. Both churches plan to get together for more joint services.
