ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — City officials have condemned a nightclub that was the scene of scores of police calls.

Club 2720 on North Church Street was shuttered because of multiple building and fire code violations, officials said. Police said officers responded to more that 200 calls at the club in the last two years.

On New Year's Eve, a tow-truck driver was shot and killed while trying to tow a car from a lot across the street from Club 2720.
Investigators said a group of people that left the club started arguing with William Corbett, 25, when a member of the group pulled a gun and shot him in the chest.

James Taylor Jr., 24, of 717 Starling Way in Rocky Mount, has been charged with murder in connection with Corbett's death.
