During the campaign, which began on Aug. 18 and ran through Labor Day weekend, officers held more than 5,600 "Booze It & Lose It" checkpoints and patrols throughout the state. In addition to arresting 3,100 impaired drivers, officers also issued more than 68,500 traffic violations.
The "Across the State Battle Against DWI" campaign was part of an effort spearheaded by the Governor's Highway Safety Program to crack drown on impaired drivers.
Officers arrested 1,217 people for driving while impaired during the final week of the campaign. The most DWI arrests -- 107 -- were made in Wake County. Eighty people were arrested in Mecklenburg County, and 77 in Durham County.
"This campaign may be over, but our officers remain committed to ensuring safety on North Carolina roads," Darrell Jernigan, director of the Governor's Highway Safety Program, said. "We will continue to drive these messages home until 100 percent compliance is achieved."
