Princeville Officials, DOT At Odds Over Historic Building

Posted Updated

PRINCEVILLE, N.C. — There is more controversy over a historic building in Princeville.

Flooding from Hurricane Floyd destroyed the old town hall in 1999. Princeville qualified for a $350,000 grant to turn it into a history museum, but the state Department of Transportation must sign off on the contract.

The town hired a Durham company without the DOT's approval.

The DOT asked the town to submit new bids to get the money, but the mayor recently said the town would fight that.

Some town commissioners told WRAL that they never agreed to fight the DOT's request. The issue could end up in court.
