Girl, Woman Hit in Fayetteville
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 6-year-old girl was killed and her mother was critically hurt when a car hit them while they were walking along Reilly Road on Monday evening, police said.

Natasha Kinard, 29, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, then transferred to a larger medical facility for treatment, police said. Her 6-year-old daughter, who has not yet been identified, was also taken to the hospital, where she died overnight.

Police said the pedestrians were both wearing dark clothing, and the driver, 53-year-old George E. Chapin, of 6855 Shawcross Lane in Fayetteville, apparently did not see them.

The accident is still under investigation. No charges have been filed.
