A Clayton man suffered serious injuries when a tree he was trimming fell on top of him early Sunday afternoon.

CLAYTON, N.C. — A Clayton man suffered serious injuries when a tree he was trimming fell on top of him early Sunday afternoon.

According to Johnston County authorities, the man was trimming tree branches in his yard at 808 Creekside Drive  about 1:45 p.m. when the large oak tree fell on him.

The man was taken to an area hospital. His name and condition are unknown.

Authorities are trying to determine the exact cause of the accident, but it is believed that a large gust of wind directed the tree to fall in the wrong direction.

Police say a woman was shot in the upper thigh while two men inside the home were arguing. EMS stabilized the woman and took her to ECU Health in Greenville. Both men suffered gunshot wounds during the altercation.
