RALEIGH, N.C. — Developers announced on Monday a new condominium project near downtown Raleigh that would bring nearly 100 units to the area.

The

Bloomsbury Estates Condominiums

will be built at the corner of

Hargett and Boylan Streets

near the Historic Boylan Heights neighborhood.

Ninety-four units will be built in the six story building at the site of the original Wake County Courthouse, with groundbreaking for the development slated for the first quarter of 2006.

The project is being developed by Bloomsbury, LLC.

The name "Bloomsbury" was the name suggested to Joel Lane for his estate by Royal Governor Tryon in the 1700s after having visited the English town renowned for its poets, writers and artists. The first Wake County courthouse was built in 1771 on Lane's estate in the precise location of the planned condominiums. Lane later sold 1,000 acres of his estate to form the city of Raleigh.

The condos will range in price from $244,000 for a 907-square-foot ground floor unit to $899,000 for 2,734-square-foot penthouse unit.
