Tractor-Trailer Carrying Chickens Overturns In Harnett County

Posted Updated

HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. — Harnett County authorities said a tractor-trailer carrying chickens overturned in the town of Coats Thursday morning.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said Donnell Dockery, of Eagle Springs, N.C., was traveling southbound on Ebenezer Church Road near N.C. Highway 27 at about 6:30 a.m. when he went into the left turn lane. He then lost control and went off to the right where he hit a utility pole and overturned, the Highway Patrol said.

Authorities say the truck was carrying about 300 chickens, but the Highway Patrol did not know how many chickens survived.

Dockery suffered minor injures, but was not taken to a hospital. He was cited for exceeding the safe speed.
