Store Clerk Shot in Cary Robbery

Posted Updated

CARY, N.C. — Police were investigating two armed robberies Tuesday night, including one in which a store clerk was shot.

Rahul Patel, a clerk at the High House Food Mart at Old Apex and High House roads, was shot in the chest and one arm after a man entered the store about 8:45 p.m. and pulled a gun, police said.

Patel was taken to WakeMed, where his condition was not immediately known.

Police said they did not know if the suspect, described only as a black male, took anything from the store after shooting Patel.

About 10 minutes earlier, a man had entered a Phillips 66 station on North Harrison Avenue and showed a handgun, police said. The clerk ran to the back of the store to an area behind glass and the man fled, Cary police said. That suspect also was described only as a black male.

Police said they did not know early Wednesday if the two incidents were related.
