CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Authorities have determined what caused the death of a woman whose body was found in the Neuse River in April.

The state Medical Examiner's autopsy report said 24-year-old April Messer died of an accidental cocaine overdose.

A man discovered her body in the river at Smithfield in late April.

The Smithfield Police Department is still investigating how the body was placed in the Neuse River, but have said it no longer considers the death suspicious.

Messer was from Four Oaks and the mother of two boys.
