"We are trying to do it in such a way that it makes a signature impression for the city of Raleigh," said Assistant City Manager Dan Howe.
The designs range from a street market with trees and water features for the kids to a grassy area and an acryllic glass stage. Despite the different designs, there is one goal.
"Get people back downtown and enjoy it. We want them to get in their cars and come from the suburbs and enjoy the space," said landscape architect Jon Wilson.
With seating now gone from Fayetteville Street Mall, officials want downtown workers to have a place to eat lunch and enjoy too. All the ideas will be presented to the public on Tuesday. A final decision on a plan and a cost estimate is expected by fall.
