RALEIGH, N.C. — The road many motorists use to avoid the Pullen Road closure near N.C. State's campus was itself closed for part of the day Thursday.

Ashe Avenue was closed as crews performed non-emergency work to connect a house at 119 Ashe Ave. to water service, officials with the city of Raleigh public utilities department said.

The road was closed around 9 a.m. It reopened before 1:30 p.m..

Ashe Avenue is a road that many motorists use to get from Western Boulevard to Hillsborough Street since Pullen Road was closed for construction last month. Pullen Road will not reopen until at least Aug. 7.

Transportation officials devised a detour route for the Pullen Road closure, but many motorists found Ashe Avenue to be more efficient than the signed detour.
