Unemployment Down Across Most Of N.C., Report Says

For the third consecutive month, the state's county unemployment rates decreased in at least 63 counties in May, according to the latest statistics released by North Carolina's Employment Security Commission.

The numbers also show that unemployment rate went up in 21 counties and remained the same in 16 counties. No county, however, was above 10 percent unemployment.

Currituck County had the state's lowest unemployment rate, at 2.8 percent, while Scotland County had the highest unemployment rate, at 9.4 percent.

Unemployment was down in the Raleigh-Cary area from 4.1 percent in April to 3.9 percent; Durham, however, remained at 4.1 percent.
