RALEIGH, N.C. — Tardies at a Raleigh middle school have dropped dramatically since a new policy was put in place.

"The fact is we used to have 20 kids tardy at least each period, and now, it looks like we have one," said David Ansbacher, principal at East Millbrook Magnet Middle School.

In one case, tardies have dropped from 37 to 13 over a three-week period.

One tardy results in a warning, two tardies result in in-school suspension, and multiple tardies could mean suspension.

Since the policy has been in place, one student received a one-day suspension after six tardies.
