KENLY, N.C. — Investigators found no evidence to suggest that two Johnston County teens were engaged in a speed competition when their trucks crashed into one another and they died Sunday evening.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Nicholas Creech, 16, was speeding and had driven across the center line of South Johnston Parkway Road when he collided with his friend, Reece Richardson, 17.

Both Creech and Richardson were pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in Creech's truck, Travis Foster, 16, was taken to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh. He was listed in fair condition Thursday.

Funeral services were held for both teens Wednesday evening at North Johnston High School, where they were juniors. More than 1,400 people gathered to pay their respects.

Graveside services were held for both teens Thursday.
