MOORE COUNTY, N.C. — One person was killed and another seriously injured in an accident on U.S. Highway 1 near Vass late Monday afternoon.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol said a pickup truck traveling north on U.S. 1 attempted to turn left onto U.S. 1 Business when a sport utility vehicle heading south struck it. Debris also hit a third vehicle driven by Samuel Kofoed, 30, of Cameron.
The driver of the pickup, Jasper Shepard Jr., 69, of Aberdeen, was killed. The driver of the SUV, Clayton Clark, 23, of Southern Pines, was taken with serious injuries to First Health in Pinehurst.
The Highway Patrol said neither alcohol nor speeding were believed to be contributing factors and that no charges will be filed.
