RALEIGH, N.C. — A new entertainment ordinance could allow nightclubs to go without security.
After a year of discussion, the new ordinance would allow clubs that operate safely for nine months to go without security.
The current ordinance requires an off-duty Raleigh police officer to provide security at most nightclubs.
Club owners, however, say the security is too expensive.
Under the new ordinance, clubs with a history of problems must still hire a law officer.
The ordinance takes effect Aug. 1.
