Apartment Crash
DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police continued searching Tuesday for the driver who slammed a car into someone's apartment Monday evening.

At about 8:30 p.m. Monday, neighbors said they heard a thunderous sound. When they walked outside, they found that a car had crashed into the living room of another apartment.

Investigators said the driver took off. They say they know whom the car, a white Nissan 300ZX, is registered to, but say they do not know who was driving it.

"We've been checking local hospitals because we think the driver could be injured," said Kammie Michael, a spokeswoman for the Durham Police Department. "It was a serious accident."

Police believe the driver drove up to another accident Monday, thought it was a roadblock and got scared.

"We think he approached and saw the flashing lights, turned around and hit a parked car," Michael said.

Managers at Strawberry Hills Apartments worked to assess the damage Tuesday. Neighbors said the thousands of dollars in damage could be repaired.

They worry, however, about the woman who lives inside, Jackie Trice. They say she is shaken.

Apparently, she just stepped out of the living room, moments before the car crashed through her wall, neighbors said.
