Rep. Bob Etheridge and the panelists discussed technology and research on hurricane forecasting, especially relating to inland flooding and new warning systems to help save lives and communities. The forum, titled "Hurricanes: Forecasting to Save Lives," was held Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Convocation Center of the N.C. State University College of Textiles on Centennial Campus in Raleigh.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has predicted this will be another above-normal hurricane season. NOAA predicts that this season there will be between seven and nine hurricanes of which as many as five could become major hurricanes.
