Cary Leaders Discuss Annexation Of Turner Creek Subdivision

Posted Updated

CARY, N.C. — Cary town leaders approved the annexation of the proposed Turner Creek development Thursday.

Located at the intersection of Highway 55 and Turner Creek Road, it would add 300 homes to Cary.

Opposition to the development centers on traffic and the concern that adding more homes to the area would cause Highway 55 to be more congested. In addition, opponents believe the development would cause traffic problems because of a nearby year-round school.

Another problem is access to the development, opponents say. There would only be one way in and one way out because the property is surrounded by wetlands that are protected and cannot be developed.

The decision to annex comes at a critical time when town leaders are also having to considering major budget cuts, partially because of the town's tax base being too small and not growing fast enough.
