Opinions Vary About Future Of Dorothea Dix Campus

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — A public meeting at the Raleigh Convention Center was packed full of people Tuesday night debating what to do with the Dorothea Dix Hospital campus.

The mental health facility is moving to Butner in 2007.

The most popular suggestions appear to be maintaining open space for parks and continuing to use the property for mental health needs.

Most people do not want to see it sold to private developers.

A final proposal is due on Sept. 1 and then it is up to the governor to approve it.
