Highway 64 Wreck 2
CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — Two people were injured Friday morning in an accident in Chatham County.

Authorities said a tractor-trailer traveling west on Highway 64 ran a stoplight at Mt. Giliad Church Road. The semi clipped the front end of a Volkswagen Passat, which caused it to spin around.

According to investigators, the truck driver, Asuncion Gomez, 33, of Four Oaks, and the Passat driver, Jennifer Stanley, 35, of Pittsboro, were both taken to UNC Hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

During the wreck, the truck caught on fire, but the car did not. The overturned truck, though, straddled part of the westbound lanes and traffic had to be detoured for most of the morning.

Gomez is being charged with failure to stop at a red light, authorities said.
