Lawmaker Wants Some Funds For Lottery To Help Gambling Addicts

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Sen. Ellie Kinnaird, D-Orange, wants to use proceeds from a potential state lottery to help gambling addicts.

She plans to oppose the lottery bill passed by the House.

The bill requires the Department of Health and Human Services to study gambling addiction, but it does not designate any money to treat the problem.

Many lottery states produce public service announcements, staff hotlines and support treatment programs.
