NCDOT crews will temporarily reduce I-95 to one lane in each direction between mile markers 35 and 36 near St. Pauls north of Lumberton beginning on Thursday until May 26.
The DOT said that delays are expected to exceed four miles. Motorists should proceed with caution through this area and are urged to use an alternate route if possible.
The closure is necessary to replace the Parkton-Tobemory Road (S.R. 1723) bridge that has been closed since it was damaged by an overheight vehicle in September 2004.
Southbound traffic will be shifted into a two-lane, two way traffic pattern in the northbound lanes.
NCDOT is notifying motorists of the lane reduction and expected delays through portable message signs positioned along the I-95 corridor in North Carolina.
