In February 2004, Cumberland County Sheriff Moose Butler demoted the chief jailer. A digital identification system also was installed to match inmates with fingerprints. This came after six inmates were mistakenly released from jail in less than a year.
Now, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office is searching for a Hope Mills woman -- Deanna Sealy -- who was mistakenly released by deputies on Friday.
Sealy, 27, was sentenced to a 30-day jail term on Friday by the District Court for maintaining a dwelling for the sale and distribution of cocaine. Sealy pleaded guilty to the initial charge of maintaining a dwelling for the sale and distribution of cocaine, and charges were dropped on other misdemeanor drug violations.
But the sheriff's office said Sealy appeared in court under an assumed name -- Deanna Posey. It was not knowing her last name that led deputies to release the woman by mistake on Friday.
The sheriff's office said Sealy, who also goes by the name Deanna Posey, resides at 1916 Flamingo Drive.
