RALEIGH, N.C. — Some people in west Raleigh are banding together to fight crime after a huge increase in burglaries.

Police say burglaries in west Raleigh are up 45 percent over the same time last year.

Investigators say the burglars typically strike during the day and may be masquerading as magazine salesmen.

"Do not allow people you don't know into your house. They may be legitimate businesspeople or someone looking to commit a crime," said Lt. Jack Moorman of the Raleigh Police Department.

Hundreds of neighbors in the area created a community watch program to keep the burglars on their toes.
