RALEIGH, N.C. — The Capital City is honoring Raleigh's retiring police chief Friday, and the public is invited to the celebration.

After 32 years in law enforcement, Police Chief Harry Dolan announced last month that he will step down from the post on Oct. 1,

Dolan, 54, joined the Raleigh Police Department in September 2007, replacing Jane Perlov as police chief.

The police department is hosting a send-off for Dolan from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Fletcher Memorial Hall at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

All are welcome to the free event.

Deputy Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown will serve as interim chief while the department considers a long-term replacement.
