Critically injured player returns to Duke teammates
Duke wide receiver Blair Holliday, who was critically injured in a July 4th jet ski accident, led Duke off the bus and was at midfield for the coin toss before the game.
Posted — UpdatedHolliday just recently relearned to walk and talk. To see him in motion with the team was emotional for everyone associated with Duke football.
“The whole duke family has been very supportive and praying for him and it's really been a miracle,” said Sara Quick, a Duke Alum.
Holliday was critically injured in a July 4 jet-ski accident on Lake Tillery when the watercraft of teammate Jamison Crowder collided with the one ridden by Holliday. Severe head and neck trauma left Holliday hospitalized for two months before recently moving to an out-patient status.
For Brenda Crowder, seeing Holliday and the Devils walk toward the stadium is Angelic and prayers she says have been answered.
“I'm so excited today because Blair is going to be here today,” she said. “God is truly wonderful because he is a miracle.”
Blair’s mother Leslie, is equally was equally as emotional and highly optimistic for her son.
“It's very emotional and I'm happy for Blair,” she said. “I thought God is good. It's a blessing and if he works hard, hopefully in a year, he'll back.”
Duke Athletics also held a raffle at Saturday’s game with a grand prize of two tickets to the 2013 BCS National Championship. All money raised will benefit the Blair Holliday Foundation to help pay for mounting medical costs.
