Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — President George W. Bush is planning to a trip to Raleigh on Thursday.

Bush will discuss social security at 11 a.m. at the Meymandi Concert Hall at the BTI Center. He wants to create private investment accounts to allow Americans to save for their own retirement if they choose.

Early estimates are Bush's plan will cost $754 billion in the first 10 years. The plan is being criticized by Democrats as too expensive and unnecessary.

Officials said Thursday's event will be an invitation-only town hall meeting. Participants will be allowed to ask the president questions about his budget and social security plan. Doors open at 9 a.m.
