FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A highly-anticipated road project is about to get its final green light.

State Department of Transportation officials plan to sign a contract Thursday to extend Owen Drive in Fayetteville.

Crews will continue the roadway east past U.S. 301 to East Mountain Drive.

The goal is to get the roadway closer to Highway 87 and I-95. The work could begin as early as February and wrap up next September.
