State Wildlife Officials Add Charges In Cary Deer Shooting

Posted Updated

CARY, N.C. — There are new charges against a Cary man charged with shooting a deer with an assault rifle less than 100 yards from a neighborhood.

State wildlife officials are now charging Justin Smith with negligent hunting and poaching.

Cary police say Smith used a SKS assault rifle to shoot a deer from a church parking lot. Investigators say he then stashed the gun in a school bus.

Cary detectives have already charged him with shooting the gun inside city limits.
