Apartment fire displaces nearly a dozen in Fayetteville

Eleven people were displaced Saturday after an apparent lightning strike started a fire that spread to eight apartment units at the Woodland Village apartments in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Eleven people were displaced Saturday after an apparent lightning strike started a fire that spread to eight apartment units at the Woodland Village apartments in Fayetteville.

All residents were able to evacuate the building safely, although one fire fighter was treated for heat-related injuries..

According to Fayetteville Fire and Emergency Management, the Fayetteville Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at 4040 Bardstown Court shortly after 4:45 p.m. When they arrived, flames were visible in the attic of the two-story building. The fire was controlled in about 30 minutes.

The Red Cross was assisting the displaced families with temporary housing arrangements.
