Window Company To Create 800 Jobs With New Durham Plant

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — A window company will create as many as 800 jobs in Durham when it builds a new plant, state officials announced today.

Silver Line Building Products will build a new $22 million dollar production facility in the Research Triangle Park.

The company makes vinyl windows and will create as many as 800 new jobs over the next few years.

Gov. Mike Easley helped seal the deal by offering an incentives package worth $100,000.

"Silver Line Building Products' decision to locate in North Carolina is just another example of how our investments in education, infrastructure and workforce development are paying off," Easley said. "We will continue to work to bring jobs and investment to our state."

The One N.C. Fund helps the state recruit and expand quality jobs by providing financial assistance to businesses or industries deemed by the governor to be vital to a healthy and growing state economy. Through the use of this fund, nearly 12,000 jobs and $1 billion in investment have been created since 2001.

Silver Line plans to spend $6.6 million on real estate in Durham's Research TriCenter Industrial Park and $15.7 million on machinery and equipment. The company is moving into an existing building, which will enable Silver Line to begin operations by next spring, said administrative Vice President Mark Steinbauer.

"Durham is an ideal location for Silver Line. It fills the gap between our New Jersey and Georgia facilities and enables us to increase the level of service to customers in that area," Steinbauer said.

To meet growing demand, Silver Line Building Products will open a 422,000-square foot manufacturing facility in Durham for a window assembly operation. The New Jersey-based company makes custom vinyl windows for the new construction and replacement windows market. Customers include building supply stores such as The Home Depot, which is one of Silver Line's largest customers. Silver Line Building Products was founded in 1947.

The company currently employs more than 7,000 workers and has facilities in New Jersey, Illinois, Ohio, Georgia, Massachusetts and Texas.
