Jurors Get Case In Ex-Trooper's Trial

Bobby Regan is accused of attempting to kill his wife, Danielle Regan, in June 2003. Regan was shot in the chest after she got out of the shower.

Jurors deliberated for an hour Wednesday without reaching a verdict. They will continue their deliberations Thursday.

During closing arguments, both sides laid out their cases. Prosecutors claim Regan tried to kill his wife for insurance money and to get the couple's house. They also said Regan tried to frame his former girlfriend, Linda Lee, for the shooting. Lee claimed Bobby Regan forced her to drink, drugged her and took her to his house the night of the shooting.

Several rebuttal witnesses took the stand Wednesday. Among them was Danielle Regan, who tried to dispute the testimony of a witness, who said he had pulled over to the side of the road and saw Lee drive away from the house the night of the shooting.

When asked whether she saw someone outside on the side of the road the night of the shooting, Regan said, "I didn't notice any vehicles that were not usually there."

Defense attorneys claim Bobby Regan had nothing to do with his wife's attempted murder and Lee shot Danielle Regan out of jealousy. They said Lee became obsessed with Bobby Regan since he pulled her over in a traffic stop, which led to an affair.

Defense attorneys also reminded jurors that Lee changed her story several times and she never mentioned anything about being drunk or drugged the morning after the shooting.

The jury will only have to consider the attempted murder charge after the judge dropped the conspiracy to commit murder charge on Tuesday. If convicted, Regan could face eight to 16 years in jail.

Lee is also charged in the case, but her trial has not started yet.
