CARY, N.C. — Cary could soon be home to the next five-star hotel. The new Umstead Hotel and Spa is marketing itself as a world-class luxury hotel.

The Umstead is the first of four high-dollar hotels set to open in the Triangle over the next two years. The other hotels will be four-star efforts, but the Umstead is going for five-star honors.

"I think we are trying to make up for missed opportunities through the years," said Martin Armes of the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Officials said some of the hotel's amenities include Italian furniture and wood ceilings from South America. In addition, its staff will have customized uniforms.

The hotel will have 150 guest rooms. Starting Monday, rooms are $295 a night. In three months, the fee jumps to $350 a night.

The spa will open Jan. 28.
