A fugitive from Durham is recovering from gunshot wounds following a violent standoff in Georgia.

Tywan Williams, 28, was shot by U.S. Marshals about 5:45 p.m. outside a convenience store in Cobb County, Ga. During the attempted arrest, Williams attempted to flee the scene and rammed several law enforcement vehicles, investigators said. He was shot by U.S. Marshal inspector shortly afterward on Interstate 285 during another confrontation.

Marshal was transported to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition late Friday evening. The inspector who shot him was also hospitalized.

Williams was wanted in connection with a drive-by shooting on Scout Drive in Durham that killed Michael Hunter in 1997. He was also sought by Cobb County authorities for a felony probation violation.
