Initial Autopsy Suggests No Foul Play In Death Of Henderson Woman

Katie Poythress, 87, and her 1988 Toyota Camry were found Thursday on a backwoods trail near a city park in Vance County.

"We would like to know if anyone was along the isolated path along the sewer line in that area if they had seen or not seen anything. If they were there between Saturday and Thursday, we would like to know," said Henderson Police Chief Glen Allen.

For Poythress' family, the tragic end to the search is sinking in.

"Now, we're beginning to see closure. It wasn't the closure we asked for or wanted," said Orlen Little, Poythress' son-in-law. "It's the one we've been dealt and are dealing with it quite well."

Family members said so far, the investigation offers some relief.

"We want reassurance that there was no involvement from other sources and that this was a natural cause. We still have questions that it was a natural cause," Little said.

A complete autopsy will take a couple of weeks. Poythress will be buried Sunday at Gillburg United Methodist Church.
