Wilson Deputies Charge Man In Double Murder

Posted Updated

WILSON, N.C. — A Wilson County man is charged with two counts of murder following the deaths of his estranged wife and stepson.

Deputies were called to a residence on the 4800 block of St. Mary's Church Road Friday night.

When they arrived, deputies found a pickup truck with 20 gallons of diesel fuel had been driven into the side of the home.

After searching the home, authorities found Sandra Raper, 48, and Emerson Batchelor, 27, dead in different parts of the house.

Bill Raper, 62, who deputies said fled the scene, was later located and arrested. He is being held in the Wilson County jail without bond.

Investigators believe that when the truck did not explode, Raper went inside and killed them.

The Lucama Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene due to the large amount of diesel fuel on the truck and that spilled around the house.

The cause of the deaths have not been released.

Officials said there had been a history of domestic disturbances involving the couple since 2002. On Thursday, Bill Raper was ordered by the District Court judge to stay away from the residence for one year.

The couple had been married for 22 years.
