Moore County Town Puts Pricetag On Tornado Cleanup

Posted Updated

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — It will cost Southern Pines $500,000 to clean up thousands of trees leveled by a tornado.

The bill does not include the cost of repairing and replacing the 135 buildings damaged by Hurricane Jeanne's remnants last month.

At least 35 people are still in hotels because their homes were condemned.

The town hopes the state will help pay clean up costs.

Emergency management officials surveyed the area last week. Their initial report is expected Thursday.
