Durham Commissioners Get Earful About County Manager's Firing

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham commissioners named an interim county manger Wednesday, but not before hearing an earful from people angry with their decision to fire current manager Mike Ruffin.

Ruffin was greeted with hugs and a standing ovation as he walked into Wednesday's board meeting. Commissioners voted to fire him Monday after citing a difference of opinion in how to manage Durham County.

During the meeting, nearly two-dozen people blasted commissioners for the move and some made pleas to keep Ruffin on the job.

His last day is Friday. The interim replacement is assistant county manager Wendell Davis.
