ASHEBORO, N.C. — Visitors to the North Carolina Zoo can now see the park's new African lion cubs.

The cubs, twin sisters born on July 17 at the zoo, spent their first full day Tuesday at the lion exhibit in the zoo's African region. The cubs were put on exhibit temporarily Monday with their mother to ensure that they could maneuver in their new outdoor habitat. Right now, the cubs can be seen from 9 a.m. until about 2:30 p.m.

Once keepers are confident that the mother will bring the cubs off exhibit at the end of the day, they will be allowed to stay in the exhibit until normal closing time, 5 p.m., weather permitting.

The cubs are the first lions born at the state zoo since 1983.
