Johnston Schools No Longer Allowed To Take Lunch From Students

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Johnston County school superintendent said schools cannot take away lunches from young children, even if they forget their lunch money.

Anthony Parker sent an e-mail to principals with the new rule. It applies to kindergarten through second grade.

A new "no charge" policy was instituted this year. Students who do not have their money can get fruits and vegetables instead.

Some students were making it through the lunch line only to have their hot lunch thrown away.
