Suspects In Shooting Outside NCSU Football Game Denied Bond

Timothy Johnson, 22, a student at North Carolina State University, and his brother Tony, 20, are each charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Investigators say the brothers got into a fight with two men at a tailgating party across from Carter-Finley Stadium and shots were fired.

Kevin M. McCann, 23, of Chicago and 2nd Lt. Brett Johnson Harman, 23, a Camp Lejeune Marine from Park Ridge, Ill., were killed.

"He was an amazing, amazing wrestler -- really really funny, sweet -- everybody really liked him. I don't know a single person who didn't like him. He was very popular," Harman's friend Havalah Backus said.

Ashley Brown, 18, of Tarboro was charged as an accessory after the fact to murder. Investigators say Brown drove Tony Johnson to a hotel and helped him secure a room.

Family members and friends of all three suspects packed the courtroom.

"They are mourning right now and they want all of this attention to be over with as soon as possible," said Tommy Moore, a friend of the Johnson family.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office has interviewed more than 30 witnesses and says it is building a strong murder case.

Acting on a tip, investigators with the Sheriff's Office and the City County Bureau of Identification searched a spot at Jordan Lake, looking for the murder weapon with the help of divers.

Late in the afternoon, a weapon was recovered.

"This weapon does match the description of the one that we're looking for," Sheriff Donnie Harrison said.

The State Bureau of Investigation will run tests to determine whether the weapon they recovered is the one used in the murders.

The suspects asked for court-appointed attorneys. Their next court appearances are scheduled for Sept. 27.
