CARY, N.C. — A Cary police officer who rejoined the force after he was shot in the line of duty is retiring.
George Almond returned to work five months after he shot in the face during a traffic stop.
Emory Bivins is in jail for the shooting, but now medical reasons are forcing Almond to retire. His last day of work was Friday, but he will officially retire at a luncheon later in August.
Right now, Bivins is serving a life sentence for shooting Almond, but that could change. He appealed his federal sentence and won.
In two weeks, Bivins will get a new sentencing hearing. Bivins also faces 25 to 43 years on state charges.
