Pair charged with attempted murder in Raleigh

Traveon Shaquille Martin, 18, of 6008 Donnybrook Road in Raleigh, and Quamaine Deshawn Charmichael, 18, of 1320-A Poole Road in Raleigh, were booked on charges in connection with the June 21 shooting of Jerry Fuquay.

Hardee Parrish, who owns Hardee's Food Mart on Penny Road in southwest Raleigh, said a masked man approached Fuquay as he was closing the store, stole a bank bag and shot him.

According to arrest warrants, the bag had about $1,800 in it.

Parrish said that Fuquay, a 25-year employee, was shot in the neck and suffered nerve damage to one of his arms.

Parrish said Martin, who lives about two blocks from the store, was a frequent customer and that he knows Martin's parents.

Carmichael's father, Quamaine Carmichael, said his son and Martin are cousins and that he is thankful Fuquay was not killed.

Carmichael and Martin are charged with one count each of attempted first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony conspiracy.

Martin also faces a charge of possession of stolen property.

They were each in the Wake County jail Wednesday under a $1 million bond.

According to the North Carolina Division of Adult Correction, Carmichael served four months in prison after being convicted in 2010 for assault on an officer and communicating threats.

The records also indicate that he was on disciplinary segregation status while in prison.
