Selma Teen To Be Tried As Adult

Posted Updated

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A 15-year-old will stand trial as an adult on murder charges.

Deondre Russell is accused of shooting Tyjuan Gray, 23, of Selma, three times on July 31.

If convicted, Russell could face life in prison.

Under state law, the death penalty is not an option because Russell is a juvenile.

Police say Russell confessed to shooting Gray after an argument. The teen was already on probation, according to police.
