Weather officials believe there may be flooding problems if either or both storms hit North Carolina. As a result, crews are clearing any possible obstructions from drainage areas.
"Yesterday, our normal storm drain crews were cleaning out the surface drains. Today, we kicked it up a notch and have some additional crews working in other areas tour some other places within the street division to work on the culverts and storm drains today to make sure everything is open," street superintendent Elwood Davis said.
Homeowner David Johnston said he was glad to see the crews working on the drains. Last April on Wade Avenue in Raleigh, a heavy thunderstorm caused major flooding next to Johnston's house.
"It just warranted getting video of it because as we're watching it rise, we're thinking is that ever actually going to make it over the side of the ditch and sure enough, it finally did actually flow over into the road, so it was a little nerve-whacking," he said.
Raleigh crews are ready to run crews around the clock if necessary. They also ordered extra barricades in case flooding blocks any roads.
The city of
Wilson
took similar steps on Wednesday.
